Early Modern English pimple, pumple, from Middle English pymple, pympyl, probably a nasalized variation of Old English *pipel, *pypel, from Old English piplian, pyplian (“to break out in pimples, show eruptions”). Akin to Old English pipliġende (“having shingles”).
