2. A prefix used to derive indefinite forms of interrogative adverbs, determiners, and pronouns.

   ‎не- (ne-) + ‎кој (koj, “who”) → ‎некој (nekoj, “someone”)

However, it can also form adverbs, e.g. невпопа́д (nevpopád, “inappropriately, out of place”); nouns, in which case it's often stressed, e.g. не́друг (nédrug, “enemy”), не́жить (néžitʹ, “evil spirit; undead creature”), не́уч (néuč, “ignoramus (colloquial)”); and verbs, e.g. недоста́ть (nedostátʹ, “to lack”), неня́ть (nenjátʹ, “to not take (archaic)”).
