Etymology
The original meaning of the word is “shining, light-emitting; luminary”, from *արոյսի (*aroysi), from Middle Median *arōsī (“dawn”), from Proto-Iranian *ráwsiH (“radiance; dawn; morning”), + -ակ (-ak). Compare Sanskrit रुचि (ruci) and Middle Persian ʾlws (arus, “white”). Possibly related to արշալուրշ (aršalurš).
