աղունք

Old Armenian

Etymology

Ačaṙyan reconstructs the singular as *աղն (*ałn) and leaves the origin open. Ałayan derives *աղն (*ałn) from the Proto-Indo-European root *h₃elh₁- (to destroy). This is accepted by J̌ahukyan, who reconstructs a proto-form *l̥-no- (1987) or *olen- (2010) for Armenian, with a question mark.
