Old Armenian
Etymology
From earlier *բարհ (*barh), perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *bʰr̥H-ti- or *bʰerH-ti-, from *bʰerH- (“to pierce; to strike”).[1][2][3]
Alternatively, borrowed from Iranian.[3][4]
For the earlier form *բարհ (*barh) compare the Caucasian borrowings and մարհ (marh).
