From French bore, later reinforced by Russian бор (bor). Alternatively, can be said to be built from բորակ (borak, “borax”), as in other languages.

Etymology
From Iranian *bor (“leprosy”). Compare Sogdian [script needed] (βrʾwkʾ /βarūkə/, “leprous”). Perhaps related to the source of բորենի (boreni). See also ուրուկ (uruk).
