From Proto-Indo-European *Hyekwr̥(-t) (“liver”). The initial լ- (l-) is problematic. Perhaps, it arose due to contamination with the source of Proto-Germanic *librō (“liver”) or Hittite [script needed] (lišši-, “liver”).
