Etymology
The original spelling is հաւրան (hawran), from *հաւր- (*hawr-, “shepherd”), from Proto-Indo-European *peh₂-tro- (“guarder, protecter, keeper”), from *peh₂- (“to protect”), + -ան (-an, “collective suffix”). Compare also Middle Armenian պահրան (pahran).
