According to Martirosyan, we are dealing with a non-Indo-European substrate plant-name *mor-, *mōr-, *mur- (mulberry; blackberry; tamarisk) represented in Ancient Greek μόρον (móron), μορέα (moréa), Latin mōrum, mōrus, Welsh merwydden (mulberry, blackberry), Old Irish smér (blackberry), probably Hittite [script needed] (mu-uri-uš, grape), as well as in Caucasian (Chechen муьрг (mürg, guelder rose, snowball-tree), Lezgi мере (mere, blackberry)), Finno-Ugric (Finnish marja), and in Old Armenian *մոշ (*moš) from *mor-s-.
