Etymology

From Parthian [script needed] (nʾz /nāz-/, to take pleasure, delight; exult, triumph). Compare Middle Persian [Manichaean needed] (nʾz /nāz-/, to take pleasure, delight; exult, triumph), Persian ناز (nāz). These are perhaps from Proto-Iranian *nāiz-, from the same Proto-Indo-European source whence Russian не́га (néga), не́жный (néžnyj).

Verb

նազիմ (nazim)

  1. to pout, to be dainty, to give oneself airs, to stand upon ceremony, to make some difficulty, to be fussy, very particular, disdainful, overnice, to turn up one's nose, to simper, to smirk, to want asking, to hesitate

  3. to put on the airs of a lord
