Etymology
The original spelling is աւգն (awgn), from Parthian *abi-gūna-. Derivation from Proto-Indo-European *auw-, from *au- (“to like, to help”), with Sanskrit अवति (avati, “to be pleased with, to like”) and Latin aveo as cognates, is less likely. See also օգուտ (ōgut).
