פֶּן • (pen)

1. Lest, [in order] that … not, for otherwise; used in constructing warnings.
   • Exodus 20:19, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:

     ‏וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֶל־מֹשֶׁה דַּבֵּר־אַתָּה עִמָּנוּ וְנִשְׁמָעָה וְאַל־יְדַבֵּר עִמָּנוּ אֱלֹהִים פֶּן־נָמוּת׃‎‎

     vayom'rú 'el-moshé dabér-'atá 'imánu v'nishmá'a v'al-y'dabér 'imánu 'elohím pen-namút.

     And they said unto Moses: 'Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.'
