Etymology

From Middle Persian ʾlcyc (arzīz, tin, lead) (Manichaean Middle Persian ʾrzyz). Akin to Middle Armenian արճիճ (arčič, lead), an Iranian borrowing. Perhaps ultimately from Proto-Iranian *arĵata- (silver), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂erǵ-.[1]
