From Middle Persian [script needed] (xwarrah, “divine glory, splendour”), borrowed from Avestan 𐬓𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬥𐬀𐬵 (xᵛarənah), from the verbal root hvar- "to shine", from Proto-Indo-Iranian *suHar- (“to shine”). The indigenous Western Iranian form is farr(ah).
