Etymology 2
From the root ل ف ت (l-f-t) in the sense of twisting or wringing out of the ground, "to pull up or extract". Compare Hebrew לֶפֶת (lefet, “turnip”), Classical Syriac ܠܰܦܬܳܐ (laftā, “turnip”), and Akkadian 𒇻𒊬 (laptu, liptu, “turnip”).
