نَقِمَ or نَقَمَ (naqama or naqima) I, non-past يَنْقِمُ or يَنْقَمُ‎ (yanqimu or yanqamu)

  1. take vengeance on, to be spiteful against
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 7:126:
      تَنْقِمُ مِنَّا إِلَّا أَنْ آمَنَّا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّنَا لَمَّا جَاءَتْنَا
      tanqimu minnā ʾillā ʾan ʾāmannā biʾāyāti rabbinā lammā jāʾatnā
      You take vengeance on us only because we believed in the verses of our Lord when they reached us!
