Etymology
From Middle Persian 𐭥𐭮𐭢𐭣𐭤 (namāč, namāz, “reverence, prostration, prayer”) / 𐬥𐬀𐬨𐬁𐬰 (namāz), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *námas (“to bow, prostrate”), from Proto-Indo-European *némos (“(place of) sacrifice, worship”). Compare Sanskrit नमस् (namas), Ancient Greek νέμος (némos), Latin nemus.
