گاومیش

Persian

یک گاومیش

Etymology

From Middle Persian TWRAmyš (gāw-mēš, literally cow-sheep); compare Persian گاو (gâv, cow) and میش (mêš, ewe) for the constituents.

The Iranian word has been borrowed all over the Orient: compare Old Armenian գոմէշ (gomēš), Classical Syriac ܓܡܘܫܐ (gāmōšā), Arabic جاموس (jāmūs), Georgian გამეში (gameši), კამეჩი (ḳameči), კამბეჩი (ḳambeči), Chechen гомаш (gomaš), Ossetian къамбец (k’ambec).
