From Akkadian 𒀠𒆷𒀭 (ʾallānu, alyānu, “oak; acorn”), Sumerian 𒄑𒀠𒆷𒈝 (allanum, “oak; acorn, acorn-shaped”). Also Hebrew אֵלֹון (elōn, “great tree”), אַלּוֹן (allōn, “great tree; oak”), Jewish Aramaic אִילָנָא (ʾīlānā).
