Etymology
From Old Marathi अणि (aṇi), अनि (ani), अणिक (aṇika), अनिक (anika), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀅𑀡𑁆𑀡 (aṇṇa), from Sanskrit अन्यच् (anyac) + च (ca). Cognate to Gujarati અને (ane) and Nepali अनि (ani).
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /aɳi/
This word is an exception to the rule that word-final /i/ and /u/ in native (non-borrowed) words are always long.
