From Old Marathi घामैणे (ghāmaiṇe, intransitive verb), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀖𑀫𑁆𑀫 (ghamma), from Sanskrit घर्म (gharma). Cognate with Konkani घाम (ghām), Bengali ঘাম (gham), Assamese ঘাম (gham) and Sylheti ꠊꠣꠝ (gam).
