From Proto-Indo-Aryan *diśáti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *diĉáti, from Proto-Indo-European *diḱ-é-ti, from *deyḱ- (“to show, point out”). Cognate with Latin dīcō, Ancient Greek δείκνυμι (deíknumi), Old English tǣċan (whence English teach).
