From Proto-Indo-Aryan *HyúHanas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HyúHanas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂yúh₁en-os, from *h₂yuh₁en- (“young”). Cognate with Latin iuvenis, Old Church Slavonic юнъ (junŭ), Old English ġeong (whence English young).
