From Old Marathi वावदळ (vāvadaḷa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀯𑀤𑁆𑀤𑀮 (vaddala), from Sanskrit वार्दल (vārdala). Cognate to Gujarati વાદળ (vādaḷ), Hindi बादल (bādal).
