Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *sm̥-gʷelbʰ- (“same womb”), from *gʷelbʰ- (“womb”), equivalent to स (sa, copulative prefix) + गर्भ (garbha, “child, offspring; womb”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἀδελφός (adelphós, “brother”).
