From Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀁𑀫𑀼𑀳 (saṃmuha), from Sanskrit संमुख (saṃmukha, “facing”). Compare Punjabi ਸਾਹਮਣਾ (sāhmaṇā). Gujarati સામું (sāmũ), Oriya ସାମନା (samôna).
