From Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀭 (sira), from Sanskrit शिरस् (śiras). Compare with Persian سر (sar) (from Middle Persian 𐭫𐭥𐭩𐭱𐭤 (sar)) and Avestan 𐬯𐬁𐬭𐬀 (sāra). Doublet of सर (sar), सिरा (sirā).
