Perhaps from Sanskrit তিগ্ম (tigma, “sharp, pungent, hot”) or from Sanskrit তক্ৰ (takra, “buttermilk with a third part of water”). Cognate with Sylheti ꠐꠦꠋꠉꠣ (ṭengga), compare Bengali টক (ṭôk).
