From Proto-Southwestern Tai *kʰwiːᴮ (“to ride”), from Middle Chinese 騎 (MC ɡˠiᴇ, “to ride”).[1] Cognate with Lao ຂີ່ (khī), Lü ᦃᦲᧈ (ẋii1), Shan ၶီႇ (khìi), Ahom 𑜁𑜣 (khii), Zhuang gwih.
