From Sanskrit जलप्रदान (jalapradāna, literally “water offering”), from जल (jala, “water”) + प्रदान (pradāna, “donation; gift; offering; etc”), equivalent to Thai ชล (chon, “water”) + ประทาน (bprà-taan, “to give; to grant”).
