Etymology
From Sanskrit प्रासाद (prāsāda, “palace; terrace”); perhaps via Old Khmer *prāsāda, prāsādda, prāsātra, prāsādha, °prāsāddha, braḥ sādha (“temple or sanctuary having a high pinnacle”). Cognate with Burmese ပြာသာဒ် (prasad), Modern Khmer ប្រាសាទ (praasaat), Lao ຜາສາດ (phā sāt), Mon ပြါသာတ်, Shan ပျၢတ်ႈသၢတ်ႈ (pjāat sāat). Compare Pali pāsāda (“mansion; palace”).
