ศักราช

Thai

Etymology

From Sanskrit शाकराज (śākarāja, literally Scythian king), referring to King Śālivāhana, after whom the Śaka era is thought to have been named; probably via Old Khmer śakarāja (era; year); equivalent to Thai ศัก (sàk) + ราช (râat). Cognate with Modern Khmer សករាជ (sɑkriəc); Burmese သက္ကရာဇ် (sakka.raj).
