From Sanskrit सङ्क्रान्ति (saṅkrānti, “the passage of a planet from one position to another”). Compare Khmer សង្ក្រាន្ត (sɑɑngkraantɑɑ); Lü ᦉᧂᦃᦱᧃ (ṡangẋaan).
