From Sanskrit संसार (saṃsāra, “going or wandering through, undergoing transmigration; course, passage, passing through a succession of states, etc.”) or Pali saṃsāra (“faring on; transmigration”). Cognate with Khmer សង្សារ (sɑngsaa), Lao ສົງສານ (song sān).
