From Proto-Southwestern Tai *ʰmɔːkᴰ (“fog; mist”), from Proto-Tai *ʰmoːkᴰ (“fog; mist”), from Old Chinese 霧 (OC *moɡs, *moːŋ, “fog; mist”).[1] Cognate with Lao ໝອກ (mǭk), Shan မွၵ်ႇ (mòak), Ahom 𑜉𑜨𑜀𑜫 (mok), Saek ม̄อก.
