From Proto-Tai *ʔɤkᴰ (“chest”), from Old Chinese 臆 (OC *qɯɡ). Cognate with Northern Thai ᩋᩫ᩠ᨠ, Isan เอิก, Lao ອົກ (’ok) or ເອິກ (’œk), Shan ဢိုၵ်း (’úek), Ahom 𑜒𑜤𑜀𑜫 (’uk, “breast”), Zhuang aek.
