Etymology
From Pali upaddava (“calamity, danger, disaster, peril; distress; misfortune; etc”). Cognate with Modern Khmer ឧបទ្ទវ (’ŏbâttôv). Compare Sanskrit उपद्रव (upadrava), from which derived Old Khmer *upadrava, ūppadrubya, oppadrabya, and Modern Khmer ឧបទ្រព (’ŏbâtrôp).
