Etymology
From ချွေး (hkywe:, “sweat”) + -မ (-ma., feminine suffix), literally “sweat woman”, in reference to the subordinate status of the daughter-in-law living with her in-laws. Cognate with Sichuan Yi ꑮꃀ (xyp mop, “daughter-in-law”), Lolopo cirmu (“daughter-in-law”).
