Of native Korean origin. Attested in the 18th century as 곳어름 (goseoreum) and 고도롬 (godorom). Equivalent to modern 곧— (got-, “to be hard”) + 얼— (eol-, “to freeze”) + —음 (eum, nominalisation suffix).
