Etymology
First attested in the Hunmin jeongeum haerye (訓民正音解例 / 훈민정음해례), 1446, as Middle Korean 붇 (pwut). A nativised borrowing from Chinese 筆/笔 (bǐ, “writing brush, writing instrument, pen”). Sino-Korean: 필 (pil).
