Etymology
Borrowed from Dutch actie (“stock”), from Middle Dutch actie (“legal claim”), from Latin actio. Doublet of Aktion. An earlier borrowing in the sense “legal claim” remained restricted to north-western Germany. In Dutch itself, both of the mentioned senses are obsolete.
