Etymology
From Ancient Greek ἀνά (aná, “again”) + αγάλλειν (agállein, “to adorn oneself, be vain or crazy”) (of uncertain origin: said to be of onomatopoeic/nursery origin, but compare Latin Acca Larentia and Sanskrit अक्का (akkā).

- Species are now often treated as in genus Lysimachia.
