From a shortened form of the Latin given name Ambrosius, or from Middle High German brossen (“to sprout, bud”).
Central Franconian
Etymology
From Old High German brust. The native form in most or all Ripuarian dialects is Bosch from *burst or rather *borst with metathesis (compare Dutch borst). The form Brost, Bross spread northward under the influence of standard German Brust.
