Noun
Faroese (countable and uncountable, plural Faroese)
- (countable) A person from the Faroe Islands, Faroe Islander or Faeroe Islander
- (uncountable) The language of the Faroe Islands, closely related to Icelandic, and more distantly to Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish
Usage notes
As with other nationalities formed with -ese, the countable singular noun in reference to a person (as in "I am a Faroese", "writing about Faroese cuisine as a Faroese") is uncommon and often taken as incorrect. In its place, the adjective is used, by itself (as in "I am Faroese") or with a word like person, man, or woman ("writing about Faroese cuisine as a Faroese person").
