From Old High German gisiht; from a compound of two Germanic roots:

• The prefix gi- (commonly used to form nouns), from Proto-Germanic *ga-.

• The noun siht (“sight, vision”), from Proto-Germanic *sihtiz, akin to Old English sihþ.

Similar developments can be seen in Dutch gezicht, Old English ġesihþ and West Frisian gesicht.
