From Iúdach, from Old Irish Iúdae (Jew) + -ach, from Latin iūdaeus, from Biblical Hebrew יְהוּדִי (yəhûḏî). The initial G- arose from a reinterpretation of the sound /j/ as the lenited form of /ɟ/.
