Proto-Celtic
Alternative forms
- *labros, *labaros[1]
Etymology
Unknown; possibly from Proto-Indo-European *pl̥b-ró-s, from *pleb- (“to babble”) + *-rós[2], or perhaps onomatopoeic[1], compare Ancient Greek βᾰ́ρβᾰρος (bárbaros). Possible cognate with Latin plōrō (“to cry out”).
