Proto-Celtic
Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *neḱ-. Cognate with Ancient Greek νέκυς (nékus), Avestan 𐬥𐬀𐬯𐬎 (nasu, “corpse”) and Tocharian A oṅk (“man”). A comparison of all PIE cognates enables a PIE noun with nom. *neḱus and gen. *nkews to be reconstructed, the oblique case being generalized to all cases as with other words such as *angʷīnā and *anman.
