Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *gurˀdla, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷr̥h₃-dʰlom. Morphologically as if *žer- (“to eat”) + *-dlo.
Baltic cognates are Lithuanian gurklỹs (“crop”), gùrklis (“crop”) and Old Prussian gurcle.
