Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *alˀkinas. Equivalent to *olkati (“to be hungry”) + *-ьnъ. Cognate with Latvian al̂kans (“greedy, hungry”), Lithuanian álkanas (“sober”), Old Prussian alkīns (“sober”).
